In this film, Boris Karloff plays Ernest Thesiger's butler. In "The Ghoul," made in Britain one year later on, Thesiger played Karloff's butler.

Gloria Stuart said that throughout the production, James Whale was thoroughly organised with every aspect of filming.

James Whale and Boris Karloff proved to exist more than than just friends. Their secret dalliance was subtly touched at in Gods and Monsters (1998), in the surreal scene where Whale wears a respirator fixed to a mask, with Brendan Fraser'south character standing next to him.
