Disney Summation's Hawkeye streaming series might be over, simply the MCU fib of Maya Lopez AKA Marvel Comics' Echo is only just beginning.

A relatively new fictitious character that the mainstream public probably wasn't very familiar with before her Disney Plus debut, Maya/Ring's Marvel Comics backstory includes being the first character to take up the Ronin identity that MCU followers know from 2019's Avengers: End game and now Hawkeye.

In comics, Maya/Echo wore the costume first ahead passing IT to Clin Barton and the costume and the identity have resurfaced in the Wonder Existence periodically, including away the vampire huntsman Blade who is as wel coming to the MCU soon. But Maya/Echo is a good deal more than the originator of the now well-worn ninja guise.

She's currently establishing a unique Marvel Comics bequest that in many ways is retributory acquiring started. With ties to the Avengers (she's been a extremity for a hardly a geezerhood now), Wolverine, Daredevil, the Kingpin, and the criminal governing body the Hand, lately she's go the new host of the cosmic embodiment of life, death, and rebirth, the Phoenix Force, which has traditionally been related with Marvel's X-Manpower franchise.

Given Replication's MCU story is hewing finisher to her comic playscript past than initially seemed expected, and with her self-titled Walt Disney Plus by-product show in maturation, today's a good time to break down everything you need to know about Maya Lopez, how she fits into the Wonder Universe, and what IT could mean for her MCU future.

And oh yea, what the comic books tell us all but that Hawkeye episode 6 cliffhanger involving Mayan language and her "Uncle Wilson"…

Who is Echo?

Repeat started out not A a hero per se, but as an antagonist for Daredevil. After her father (an enforcer for the Kingpin) was murdered by his own boss, Maya Lopez (the ulterior Echo) was taken in by Kingpin himself, who promises to get up her as his own youngster. Though she is at the start thought to have a learning disability, Mayan language attends a special school where she learns that non only is she deafen, she's really a prodigy in both the creative arts - and martial arts.

Subordinate Kingpin's manipulation, Maya grows up blaming Daredevil for her father's death, yet vowing revenge on the vigilante. Taking the name 'Repeat' thanks to her natural talent for mimicking the movements of others (similar to another new MCU character Taskmaster), Mayan adorns her face with a handprint that resembles the bloody handprint left-hand on her face by her dying father, and sets out to kill Swashbuckler.

First meeting Matte Murdock (finished the machinations of the Kingpin), Echo begins a relationship with Matt while simultaneously hunting Daredevil. But when she discovers Daredevil's secret - his blindness - she sets a trap designed to remove the reward of his radar signified, and fights him nearly to the destruction.

Echo stops short of killing Daredevil when she realizes he and Matt Murdock are indefinite and the same, instead turning on Kingpin and shooting him, leaving him for deathlike (More on it in a little).

Fleeing the country, Mayan eventually returns to discover that Matt Murdock has touched along with his life and is with another womanhood, while Kingpin, who survived his injuries, is incarcerated.

Kingpin forgives Maya for nerve-racking to kill him, and she leaves again happening another soul-searching journey, eventually meeting improving with Wolverine and learning of the evil ninja mathematical group, the Hand.

Maya finds a new purpose in her life by fighting the Hand, taking along the identity of Ronin, and at length connection the Avengers - a team she silence associates with.

As we stated, Maya Lopez was the original secret personal identity of the character Ronin, a masked ninja World Health Organization debuted as a mystery member of the New Avengers, with readers knowing a recognizable character was in the suit, but non who.

Though plans originally called for Harum-scarum to be unconcealed as the secret hero operating as Ronin, the plot was switched around and Echo was put through in the persona (though, in other odd controversy, the secret was accidentally spoiled in the lead of the fib's release).

Maya, as Ronin, initially came into impinging with the Avengers spell fighting the Hand in Nihon. After taking on the Manus's leading, including Silver Samurai and Viper, alongside the Avengers, Echo corpse in Japan as Ronin to monitor the Hand's activities.

But she's taken wrapped, leading the Avengers to set out to rescue Echo from the Manus before she can be subverted into decorous one of their brainwashed assassins.

Encountering Elektra, herself a brainwashed Hand assassin, things shoot a dark turn when Resound actually stabs her - and reveals that the Elektra in interrogation was not the actual Elektra Natchios, merely a Skrull who was impersonating her.

This breakthrough kicks off the Secret Encroachment storyline (itself shortly to cost adapted as a Disney Plus MCU show) in which Skrulls are revealed to have infiltrated Earth society in the guise of familiar heroes and other people from the Marvel Universe, which in turn leads to the 'Dark Reign' era which put Norman Osborn in charge of a new SHIELD-like group called HAMMER.

In the 'Darkling Reign' era, Echo passed the Ronin mantle on to Clint Barton. From there, Reverberate continued her pattern of infiltrating felon groups undercover, teaming up with Moon Knight to take happening the villainous Count Nefaria, before returning to New York State and teaming upward with Swashbuckler once again.

Well-nig recently, Reverberation has once again been service of process as a member of the Avengers, a membership that has taken her into a totally new role in the Marvel Creation arsenic the current host of the cosmic Capital of Arizona Force, having won the Phoenix's favour in the tournament shown in the story 'Avengers: Enter the Phoenix.'

She's in the midst of her own starring limited series, Phoenix Sung: Echo, which explores the room Echo uses her new Capital of Arizona Force powers.

Echo's debut in the MCU is now complete. Played in Disney Plus's Hawkeye away Native American actor Alaqua Cox, of the Menominee and Mohican nations making her the first Native American MCU hero, Maya/Echo is likewise the MCU's second deaf hero, followers the debut of role playe Lauren Ridloff as Makkari in Eternals. Some Coxswain and Ridloff are deaf themselves, and as such the use of American Sign Language played a significant role in Hawkeye.

Additionally, Cox has a below-the-knee prosthesis that plays a visible factor her fighting style as Echo, though this is a departure from comic books, arsenic Maya Lopez does not have a limb difference connected the comic book page.

Another key difference between the comic book Echo and live-carry through Echo is that the live-accomplish version hasn't displayed any clear superhuman ability - although she didn't gain any of that until recently when she became the Phoenix's unprecedented host. Her exact reflexes have been explained in comics to be innate talent but non a superpower per se.

Flashback scenes to her childhood seem to imply that the MCU Maya is a virtuoso fighter simply by observing and processing the tendencies of her opponents.

But ilk we said earlier, other aspects of Mayan's comic book story actually bewilder her to the screen, forming one of the main bases of Hawkeye's game.

Videlicet, it's Ring's bequest as Ronin that connects her most forthwith to Clint Barton, in comic book footing leastwise. In the MCU, Ronin is the identity taken along by Hawkeye during the prison term of the five-class gap between when Thanos eliminated one-half of all life in the world with the Snap, and when the Avengers built their own Eternity Gauntlet to undo Thanos' decimation.

In the now-concluded streaming series, Clint's past as Ronin came sounding for him, specifically in the form of Sound reflection, who blamed Ronin for the Death of her father who was a lieutenant in Wilson Fisk's criminal organization, in a story that reflects her comic book story seeking payback against Harum-scarum.

But from here we have to give you peerless of those ... well, you screw...

...spoilers ahead for Hawkeye instalment 6

Daredevil #11 cover (Image credit: Wonder Comics)

Thanks to Echo's comic Word history as an enemy and lover of Daredevil, and a one-time enforcer for the Kingpin, Vincent D'Onofrio's return as Wilson Fisk and debut in the official MCU was anticipated aside fans and Marvel Studios delivered.

As for Charlie Cox and Daredevil, that's a different conversation.

Only we recognise now for sure Maya has known Fisk since she was a immature child, looked adequate to him as a beloved uncle, and worked for him as her father did, becoming a weapon for the Kingpin (as Clint put information technology), due in part attributable her need for vengeance against Ronin/Clint, WHO killed her criminal generate.

Full of uncertainty and like a sho believing Swivel pin hot him insensitive and rig him up to be killed by Ronin, righteous like in the comic books, she breaks away from him in the Hawkeye finale,, which testament prospective set her connected her hero's journeying in her own Disney Plus series in 2022 or 2023.

Only not before the Kingpin senses she's bear on believe he killed her father, and orders her killed...

... which light-emitting diode to one-last opposition and a Maya-Top banana Hawkeye cliffhanger familiar to comic book readers.

Ring's apparently shooting (off-camera) of Kingpin seems to be a square reference to the taradiddle Daredevil: Parts of a Hole, in which Echo actually does shoot Kingpin in the forefront, attempting to kill him, an attempt he survives. This Crataegus oxycantha indicate that helium'll similarly survive into Echo's by-product show, perhaps having been blinded as he was in comics.

Read much more about that finicky encounter and its repercussions here.

Any way it plays out, what we arrange know sure enough is Echo's MCU account is to beryllium continued...

Reverberate started out every bit an enforcer for Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, one of the outdo Daredevil villains ever (OK, THE best).
